My daughter Melody, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes four years ago. At just 10 years old, she has learned to endure what most adults would find difficult to do. Just imagine having to make yourself stick a needle into your finger to test your blood sugar levels. Melody does this on average of ten, yes ten, times a day. Two years ago, Melody was given a relief from her daily insulin injections by being placed on an insulin pump. While it makes day to day life a little easier for her, she still has to be continuously attached to it at all times.
Melody has kept her spirits high living with diabetes. She can test her own blood sugar, draw a syringe of insulin, and even give herself a shot if needed. We have met many adults who can’t even look at a needle without cringing. Even though it is amazing what she can do for only being ten years old, it breaks my heart watching my little girl have to go through this every day. She will never have a remission and she will never outgrow it.
There is hope in research, and research is the key that will unlock the door to a better future for Melody and others like her. This is where we need your help.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF, is gearing up for its annual fundraising “Walk for the Cure.” Melody’s Marchers will once again join forces with the JDRF to walk in support of finding a cure. Melody and I would love for everyone to walk and support us and try to have over 100 walkers and raise $10,000.
We, along with many of our family and friends, would like to invite you to join us at the Alamodome on Sunday October 17, 2010 in our fight to find a cure. Everyone on last years walk team had a lot of fun and we hope to see you back again this year. Melody has designed a team T-shirt for each of you that walk with us. Please click here to become a member of our team.
You may also support Melody’s team by making a monetary donation in any amount to JDRF by simply clicking here to make a donation.
Whichever way you choose to support Melody, we thank you for being a part of our fight and a member of Melody’s Marchers. Together we can, and must, find a cure.
